GMHTP is Headed to Sunny Florida
As mentioned in last month's issue, GMHTP will soon be occupying a new state-of-the-art facility. A chassis dyno, lifts, tools, and photo studio we all be at our disposal in Source Interlink Media's Tampa, FL, headquarters. We will be joined by several other SIM publications in saying good-bye to our New Jersey birthplace. We plan to visit the Garden State whenever possible though, in case any of you Jerseyites, New Yorkers, or Pennsyltuckians start to miss us. The new location should help to keep us busy year-round, and bring us closer to our neglected Southern readers and shops. So long Rochelle Park-we'll miss all of your nearby delicious dives and incredible Italian food selection, but not the traffic and freezing winters. Also, stay tuned for some staffing changes, including the introduction of a new Associate Editor.
Still Born G8 ST
One of the first casualties at GM, as the result of these trying economic times, is the recently created G8 ST. The neo-El Camino was supposed to add a bit of utility to the Pontiac G8 lineup, but to cut costs and keep GM afloat-it would have to be aborted.
"As part of the vehicle portfolio review linked to its recently announced corporate restructuring plan for long-term viability, General Motors has announced the cancellation of the proposed Pontiac G8 ST (Sport Truck) performance vehicle. Within a strengthened and integrated Buick-Pontiac-GMC retail channel, Pontiac will be clearly focused as a youthful, sporty car brand to best maximize both long-term sales and profit. As such, every entry must support this strategy and the G8 ST did not fit our future vision of the Pontiac brand. This decision does not affect production of other Pontiac G8 models, including the recently launched G8 GXP."
